In my departure terminal, I opted for something tasty that was in stock, unlike the out of stock Sweet Sriracha Bacon Sandwich that was advertised, from the Dunkin kiosk and searched for a viable seat in-which to cozy myself and await the boarding call. There was a sporadic assortment of single and double seat available sparsely spread out, but none that peaked my interest enough to overlook my disinterest in sitting directly next to people if i could avoid it, a, close but not too close, adjacent underpopulated terminal suited me better.
It wasn't long before the boarding calls came over the intercom system and after some patience, waiting and bustling I was stepping onto the plane, I felt new excitement but it was partially silenced when I remembered I was given a window seat instead of my requested aisle seat, what can I say I am an aisle person as it comes with more room and easy access to restrooms. I accepted and moved on with my life in that moment and took my seat. To be honest i was still excited as the views would be great and I was in the two seat column of rows against the windows, so only one person would have to be disturbed for me to go to bathroom.
Joy found me again as I would be by myself sitting alone in my two seat row with the other passenger not showing up. The flight was full of unorganized sleep mixed in with repeated, patchy attempts to watch Wreck it Ralph Breaks the Internet. I must say I did enjoy it immensely. On final approach to land, I saw the beauty of Ireland surrounding Dublin Airport as well as everything I saw during the approach. In a bit of a haze, I walked picked up my new boarding pass from the connecting flight kiosk desk and with nine hours ahead of me before next boarding I decided to walk around Dublin Airport.
I was reminded of the driving side here when I was in the way of those walking though the halls as I was walking on the right and they were walking on their left which creates some conflict. I quickly remedied this and was back to exploring. I found a spot on the far end to sit down and reluctantly used the free wifi at the airport, yes it had good speed but I couldn't help but feel as if I was in a 90's hacking movie that was about to start. The opening scene featuring me the unsuspecting victim of information stealing. I sent some emails and downloaded some time waster puzzle games onto my phone and felt the tire setting in so I resumed walking around. I found a nice set of sculptures down some stairs near an exit from the airport and admired them for a bit. An airport employee approached me and made sure I knew not to exit those doors or else I would have to go through the entrance to airport and back through customs, the same customs I saw walking out of my arrival gate that was quite packed. I made an extra mental note not to go out those exit doors that did in-fact have signs which told of the same no- reentry permitted information.
The man said he knew of a good quiet place for me to sit and maybe grab some sleep if I wanted to, probably sensing I was in the same category of many other countless people who had lengthy layovers. That sounded great and was started walking together and he asked me where I was from and told me some stories of his times in the US. His stories sounded like fun times, and soon we arrived after some hallways and staircases to an unused expansion terminal that currently only saw employees passing through or sitting on their breaks from time to time. It was perfect! I thanked him and he went on his way and that became my home for many hours and countless sitting upright naps. I did leave and return with a delicious hot Cajun chicken sandwich, but napping was still the hip thing to do. My sleepy stay in that empty terminal, along with making me feel like Tom Hanks, did have to come to an end and I was finally gifted with a Gate number for my flight and it was on the direct other end of the airport. Dublin Airport is not a small airport so I bopped over there with hustling legs.
On the next leg I was greeted with an empty seat between me and the other passenger as well as an aisle seat!!!!!! Request successful! I don't know how many games of Solitaire I played but it was a high number. This leg from Dublin to Berlin was only two hours but it felt like much longer. I had put my bag up in the overhead compartments and didn't want to be a bother by getting something out of it so I just enjoyed the things I grabbed from it before storing it up there, which unfortunately did not include my German edition of Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen. As we made our final approach I starte dto think to myself well, this is it time to really try to use all of my German for the next couple of months. I heard the pneumatic actuators for flight controls and landing gear being deployed, I felt the jostle of the aircraft as we approached and I tried to time the count down to tire touch so it was synchronized, 3...2...1... and I felt the tires make contact and I made it! I arrived into this awesome opportunity and it was about to begin, I couldn't wait
