The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe was such an incredible, powerful and painful monument. Positioned near The Brandenburg Gate, this monument speaks volumes for the Jewish people who were murdered by the Nazi regime and also as a result of the influence of the Nazi influence. There are standing rectangular pylons of varying sizes and heights with space to walk between all of them with the ground of varying elevations for the walkways. It was an incredible experience to have but the amount of "check the block" tourism that was present taking selfies and climbing on the pieces of the monument like a jungle gym really detracted from the amount of respect that should be present there. It was seriously unfortunate but I was relieved to see security guards walking around the monument telling people to get off the pieces. My teacher had told us that this was not a group visit and he would not be talking us to see this, but he really wished that because of what it is and represents that he wanted us to go individually on our own to experience this and pay our respects. I am glad this was presented to us in this manner, it was such an incredible experience and I feel that there are no words to convey what a personal first hand experience can give. it was truly a powerful and emotional experience to have and I am very fortunate to have been afforded this.
